Our immediate goal is to arrange for 12 months of housing for 10 Afghan families in the Philadelphia area, each in their own safe, secure and happy house.

About

We started HeArt House with a simple mission: to welcome families forced to flee countries embroiled in conflict or torn by war, and to assist them as they transition to their new lives in America, in the birthplace of our nation, Philadelphia.

We do this first-and foremost- by providing these newcomers with safe, secure and reliable accommodations.

Houses.

Apartments.

Homes. Places to begin anew.

Our energies have been focused on Afghan families who arrived in the U.S. following the fall of Kabul in August of 2021. Philadelphia, like many large metropolitan areas in the US, has been experiencing a very competitive rental market with vacancy rates hovering around 5% and annual rent increases of 8-10%. Typically, refugees have no credit score, no employment history (in the US) and little to no money for security deposits, further hampering their search for homes.

While the flow of refugees from Afghanistan has slowed in the latter half of 20222, over 350,000 are awaiting visa approval. Geopolitical events in Ukraine and Venezuela have also impacted the housing dynamic for resettling refugees. We remain committed to helping new refugees from across the globe secure homes while also providing cultural integration support for the resettled refugees.

The task at hand is considerable, but our determination is unwavering.
